Etelka Nyilasi (she/her) is an experienced teacher of violin, viola, piano, theory and musicianship with an Honours Bachelor of Music (Wilfrid Laurier University) and Master of Music (Birmingham Conservatoire, UK) in composition , as well as a Master of Music in violin performance (Middle Eastern music) from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
Her background also includes extensive teacher training in Kodály musicianship and pedagogy from the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét (Hungary) and the British Kodály Academy. In addition, Etelka is progressing through her Colourstrings and Colour Keys teacher qualifications (both Kodály-based approaches), having completed courses in Helsinki (Finland), London (UK), Sankt Paul im Lavanttal (Austria), and Galway (Ireland). She enjoys performing in many different contexts, from belly dancing shows to opera performances!
Etelka is an RCM Certified Teacher.
Marek Orszulik (he/him) teaches classical guitar and has a masters degree in performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. His lessons provide a thorough musical basis and integrate a grounding in music theory, alongside supporting technical progress on the instrument. With this goal, students become well-rounded, intelligent musicians! As well as formal studies on the guitar, he has also taken training with the British Kodály Academy and applies the methodology to his teaching. Students past and present have included children and adults of all ages and levels, and he welcomes anyone into his studio from the age of 5. In addition, he works as a senior editor for tonebase.co, providing educational material to students around the world. The repertoire for the guitar is diverse, from Bach’s monumental suites, to the rhythmic vitality of South America and Spain, and everything else in between. Students will enjoy exploring this rich array of music in their lessons.
Jocelyn Joe (she/her) graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Alberta. She has studied under the direction of Robert Uchida, concertmaster of the ESO, and Guillaume Tardiff, Associate Professor and String Area coordinator of the University of Alberta. She has studied internationally with Lin He, Associate Professor of Louisiana State University and violinist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Gregory Lee, Concertmaster of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Lynn Kuo, Assistant Concertmaster of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra.
Along with violin, Jocelyn plays the piano and has past experience with the flute, and alto saxophone. She has taught violin in the Music Enrichment program to both children and adults, and has been told that she is a patient and caring teacher. She is excited to teach at The Music Grove and is looking forward to helping her students develop their musical skills and a joy for playing!
Miranda Pauls (she/her) is a student studying English and Classics at the University of Alberta. She has completed RCM Level 8 Piano and Level 9 Harmony examinations and plays
at an ARCT level. Miranda also has experience playing piano in jazz ensembles, such as the MacEwan Youth Jazz Orchestra and the University of Alberta Jazz Band Club. Although piano is her primary instrument, Miranda also plays the B flat clarinet, for which she has attended multiple masterclasses and honour bands.
